Fae Folk
I traveled with my husband throughout Ireland for the month of April 2025. I loved every minute of returning to my ancestral homeland. My great-grandparents came to the U.S. in the late 1880’s, so it was an emotional experience.
During a week on “the edge of the world” near the tiny town of Westport, the fairies, also known as faes, started showing up in my sketchbook! As soon as we returned home (Minneapolis, MN), I spent the next six months working on a new body of work called, “Motherland: A sort of Homecoming.” -T. Hutch
This series includes paintings of faes, with acrylic inks on raw stretched canvas.
The history of the fae folk in Ireland is a tapestry woven from ancient myths and folklore, most prominently featuring the Tuatha Dé Danann, a magical people who were forced underground into mounds.
This rich history continues to influence modern Irish people, where respect for fairy sites is still a common practice. These Fae paintings were created with a deep respect and connection for the fae which translates into this series.
